I went to a Hen do on Friday night at a super tacky indian buffet/karoke/night club thing. Haha. It was actually quite fun though and there was a distinct lack of penis boppers, condom veils or 'bride-to-be' sashes, all of which are my worst nightmare.
Anyhoo, the theme was 50's chic. Being a life long lover of dressing up I always get excited at the prospect of a 'themed' night out, but sadly eras before the 90's are not my dressing up speciallity. Plus Google was not really delivering the goods in the idea stakes. In addition to all of this I wasn't keen on spending any money on a whole new outfit, so I just bodged together using some old items in my wardrobe, plus spent about £6 on eBay, and this is what I came up with....
Glasses - eBay
Shirt - ASOS
Skirt - River Island
Socks (they had poodles on!) - eBay
Heels - Topshop
I feel the glasses were really the star of the show, even if they were too tight and hurt my ears!

Ummm...Umberto...?
About a month ago I was wandering around Boot's looking to buy some more conditioner.
I'm a life long fan of Aussie 3 Minute Miracle but like everything I'm begrudged to buy it unless it's on offer, and it wasn't. However, at the time they were doing 3 for £10 offers on professional hair care.
Umberto Ginannini caught my eye mainly because I'd read a few reviews on Backcomb in a Bottle (BIAB) and was intrigued to try it. This way I could buy it, plus 2 conditions. Win win situation?
So along with Backcomb in a bottle I picked up.
Plump&Sexy Volume Conditioner from the Glam hair range (same range as BIAB)
Moisture Replenishing Hair Mask from the Spa Rituals range. All RRP £5.61 - so I got a fair bit off.
Firstly I'll start by reviewing the Backcomb in a Bottle. You may have read reviews on this before so I'll keep it short and sweet. It is basically spray gel in a bottle. Sure it keeps the hair that I backcombed in place, but in doing so it knots my hair up so badly and is very sticky.
Personally if you are going to backcomb your hair I'd suggest using hairspray to set it, or the fabulous Dust It from Schwarzkopf. I'll use it up but I wouldn't bother re-purchasing. Although it actually does do a good job of setting curls without the crispy look.
Next up is the Plump&Sexy volume conditioner.
Firstly, I love the bottle, but screw tops aren't very practical in the shower, tsk tsk, but it's not the be all and end all of a conditioner, so I'll let it slide.
The actual product itself has a very strong smell, the kind of smell that stays on your hair after the conditioner has been washed off. It's a funny smell, very hard to describe, personally I like it but it might be too 'chemaclly' for some peoples liking. I rarely use shampoo/conditioner that makes my hair smell lovely after I've wash it off so I did have some appreciation for it.
Unfortunately that's as far as it goes. For me, a test of a good conditioner is how slippery it makes my feel whilst in using it, plus as I rarely brush my hair before washing it (I know, I know..slaps wrist) it needs to be able to get my knots out in the shower! I could tell from the first wash that this just wasn't the case with Plump&Sexy. Worst still it left a horrible residue on my hair once I'd blow dried. I've tried to persevere. making sure I rinsed really well, but every time I use it I get the same greasy/dirty feeling on my ends and at the same time it made my hair look really dry. I guess I did see some volume in my hair, but it's almost like the thickness in my hair was down to the product leaving it's residue!
I won't re-purchase this, nor will I even use it up. Maybe those with thicker locks might find that the residue it leaves useful in giving volume, but sadly it's not a product for me.
Last up is the Moisture Replenishing Hair Mask from the Spa Rituals range. You get a good 200ml for your dollar, which isn't bad. And it smells absolutely lush! It really does remind me of a lovely spa smell. Again, like the conditioner it leaves its whiff on your hair after it's been washed off.
Now as for the product, it goes on like a dream, and makes my hair feel so silky, just like amazing. Seriously, it really feels like it's doing it's job. Sadly though, it has the same residue leaving problem as the Plump&Sexy conditioner, but probably 10 times worse. I guess the hair mask does kind of warn you of potential problems though....
"finer hair should use sparingly and hair prone to excess oil should apply only to damaged ends"
Oh I see, I probably come into both categories there. My hair is prone to oil and although it's not that fine, it's still not that thick either. But to you know what Umberto? I have tried using sparingly, and I have tried using only on my ends, and I've tried using sparingly on my ends, yet I still get the same result. I really, really want to like this hair mask, and I'll probably put up with greasy feeling locks for once in a while, just to get that silky feeling that really makes me think that it's repairing all my split ends magically. Plus what I have found is that if you use it and then wash your hair again a couple of days later you get that same silky feeling when wet.
I'm going to continue to use the hair mask but probably only when I know the next day I'm just going to stuff my hair up on head for work or the gym. Repurchase wise? The jury's still out on that, like I said, I want to love this product so much....
All in all though, Umberto? Sort out your hair care product formulas!
Anyone else used Umberto Giannini's products?

Weekend in pictures
How I wish I could do amazing arty pictures of things. But I can't...I have not photog skills and I was using an Iphone.
I spent the weekend up in London at my boyfriends
The weekends nails - POW! BANG! - although I wish I'd used all white dots!
My new, very pink, Smart car. SO EXCITED
Tea, mountains of chips and a dose of craziness in Sketch
Amazing cakes are the Hummingbird Bakery in Soho (finally!)
So much hummus at the Hummus Bros
All in all a very fab weekend. Even if I have put on 3 stone!!
You guys? Weekend good?

Preoccupied...OOTD
I've been mostly caught up in the excitement of getting my new car this week, plus who knew you have to sign so many forms?! I pick it up today!
So here is a very boring OOTD from a couple weeks back.
Very dull, but I did actually add a floral scarf in the end for a flash of colour - no picture of that though, doh!
Black tee - True Religion
Jacket - New Look
Cargo jeggings - American Eagle
Shoes - Steve Madden
Necklace - River Island
Cross Ring - Urban Outfitters
Watch - Armarni
Also I need to get fake tanning - my face is like 5 shades darker than my chest!

Things I've learnt this week 8th - 15th March 2011
I have managed to be AWOL for the last few days, due to the fact I accidentally didn't get in till 6am Friday morning - got 3 hours sleep - worked a 10 hour shift, then was back at work Saturday for a 14 hour shift. I had Sunday off, which I spent with my boyfriend and then back working yesterday for a 14 and 1/2 hour shift! Needless to say I am only just catching up on all my blog reading at the moment!
One
Sorting out my finances.
I go on about money all the time, but it feels so refreshing to have sorted my money out! I've managed to pay off my overdraft. FINALLY!
I decided to finally get a credit card, just so I can get my credit rating up. I plan to use it for purchases through the month and then set up a direct debit to pay it off in full the day I get paid every month. It means that I won't be using it for big purchases, just in place of my normal account. Look ma' so sensible!
Whilst I was in the bank the lady offered my a better current account. No more student! Plus I get phone insurance, holiday insurance and break down cover! I've got rid of my £2000 overdraft and replaced it with a £300 (in case of emergencies!)
Sorry if that's not very exciting for you all, but it makes me very happy
Two
So since the finances were sort out for all of 2 minutes. What did I do? Yep the only thing I know how, blow it! All on a brand spanking new Smart Car!!!!
It's a special limited pink edition for charity (they only made 100 of them) so I feel very privileged!!
I saw it only Sunday and couldn't stop thinking about it, so I've managed to purchase it today. It gets delivered on Friday!!! Typical impulse me!
But I have wanted a Smart car for ages because they are so small and easy to park. Plus free tax and congestion charge! I was supposed to be getting a used one, but they were offering a deal on finance and I feel in love with the pink one!!!! So I'll probably be broke for the next 3 years, but I'll look fabulous in my new car doing it!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can you tell how excited I am? I've been driving a 98' Fiesta for 4 years now, and although 'Lester' has done me proud, he gets very damp, smelly and needs jump starting allll the time. Considering I use my car everyday, I think it was high time for a little treat!
Three
Dancing all night till your feet hurt!
Thursday night was a totally spontaneous night out, that saw me and my friends dancing our shoes off in a cheesy club.
Literally! A bare foot'd walk to get chicken burgers at 5am!
So fun though!

OVERDONE ALERT - MAC Wonder Women Collection
The problem is when you read so many blogs is that when a new collection comes out you can bet your bottom dollar that everyone will have swatched/reviewed it.
Therefore my post is very pointless, but I still enjoy swatches and new blog posts. So I will stuff the new Wonder Women collection down your throat once more, just in case you haven't seen enough of it!
Basically I like the packaging, I knew I'd be most upset if I didn't purchase anything from it. Nothing massively stood out to me, but I've been needing a new blush and a new lipgloss for a while....
It was by chance that I thought, 'hmmm maybe I'll have a look at the MAC website to see if there is any news on when the new collection drops' - and there it was, good timing! I got all ready to go out to my local MAC (actually not that local, a good 40mins drive) and then decided it would be too dangerous to step foot in MAC for my bank balance so I ordered online. Also, like I blogged about that day, Debenhams online have started doing MAC and were offering a 10% discount, which is amazing considering you never, ever get MAC discounts!
So here are my two products

So here are my two products
I must say the packaging is my favourite thing - it has stars on the inside too!
Lipglass in Emancipation and Blush in Amazon Princess
Amazon Princess Blush - Swatches. Top - light section, Middle - dark section, Bottom - mixed
I really, really wanted Mighty Aphrodite but it was sold out everywhere, and I didn't want to chance going into a MAC and finding both sold out. I almost didn't get this as I was unsure how dark it would be, but I'm pretty pleased I did. It just gives a nice pink blush without being over the top. I needed just a nice everyday blush without any sparkles, although the dark section has a very light shimmer to it. Plus I'm super stoked it has a mirror in! Winner
Lipglass in Emancipation
The size of this Lipglass is absolutely hilarious. I mean what the hell MAC? Why would I need a lipgloss this big? If they wanted to give more product then they could have just made it longer rather than wider. The applicator is huge - I mean look at it on my lip! Still I guess it gives full coverage in one swipe of the lips! Size, aside it is a really nice colour. A neutral pink with a shimmer, the gloss itself lasts 2 hours or so but leaves a lovely shimmer behind which lasted more like 6 hours. Whilst it might not be the most interesting lip colour it is something that I can wear everyday and me confident that it looks good!
So that's it really, too good everyday products from a much hyped collection. I'm glad I joined the hype!

Dalmatian Nails!
Woof Woof
I originally wanted to do something colourful but I saw some similar ones on a Tumblr and thought they were a change from leopard print. Plus about 1,000 times easier!
Also the A/W Topshop Unique show had the models with similar nails!
Random white nail polish (still waiting for my China Glaze White on White to arrive!) and Nails Inc London Nights, I used a dotting tool for the dots, which if you haven't got one yet. Why the hell not? Seriously I only heard about these like a week ago and they have made my life so much easier (well in terms to painting my nails!) I got mine from eBay - a sent of 5 was like £2. Bargain.

Just horsin' around....
Sorry I could resist. What do you think yay or neigh!? Oh so many horse related jokes....
Anyway on Friday I went out for a date with my boyfriend. Although we've been together two years now I still like to call nights out together 'dates' and dress up to the nines. We went to the cinema to see True Grit, which I've been wanting to see for ages. I have a weird facination with modern Western films and I love the Cohen Brothers. No Country for Old Men is actually one of my favourite films.
As for the film, it was amazing. I love it, one of those films I was still thinking about for a few days after. Hailee Steinfeld is a brilliant actress and really deserved the Oscar she got for the film. It is a little jumpy and gruesome in places, but I would reccommend it.
So this is what I wore, very apt too as the film had lots of horses in!
Oh dear, out of focus again!
Top - ASOS
Leggings - River Island
Shoes - Soyoushoes.co.uk
Black ring - New Look
The colour does wash me out a little but I love the pussy-bow style of the top and print too much not to keep it!
As an added bonus I managed to take a quite make-up shot, unfortuantly my eyeliner is wonky, but I did put some false lashes on before I went out which kind of covered it up!
I have MAC Victoria on my lips and UD Naked Palette on my eyes. My hair looks a bit crappy, have you ever blow dried your hair only to realise that you probably didn't wash all the shampoo/conditioner out, so it feel greasy and gross? Yeah....that happened and I didn't want to re-wash it!

Things I've learnt this week 28th Feb - 6th March 2011
One
I managed to get V Festival tickets this year!
I only live about 20 minutes away from the Chelmsford site but I haven't been for the past few years due to holidays clashing/not being able to afford it!
As soon as I saw that Rihanna and Eminem were headling I knew I had to go. I managed to get tickets really easy (they sell them the day before for Essex residents) although I know loads of people had problems. I'm just going for the Sunday, as the Saturday didn't have such good acts, and I don't 'do' camping anyway!!!!
As it's in August I'm hoping for a lovely sunny day, and it gives me a good excuse to plan and buy a new outfit!
Two
Talking of new outfits, I have a wedding to go to next month. It's rather short notice, it's a work friend and I was orginally invited to the evening part only, but my friend, who is really good friends with the bride had an invite and a plus one to the whole day. She has no significant other at the moment so she's invited me! I do love a good wedding, but it means that I now have to find a wedding appropriate outfit for April.
Who knows what the weather will be like in April?! Wahhh, plus I'm not too keen on spending loads, as it will probably be something I never wear again. Even though French Connection have some lovely stuff in at the moment!
...and with a wedding comes a hen do! We have to dress up '50's' style! Which means anouther outfit!
What with wedding presents and arranging transport there and back, weddings are very expensive, and not just for the bride and groom!
But still, I'm looking forward to a lovely day!
Three
I had a facial this week. I aim to have one every 4-6 weeks but lately it hasn't been happening!
My skin gets so congested and I opt for a steam facial to unclogg my pores. I forget home much I love them, it sometimes feels a little extravagent getting one, but I swear they do my skin the world of good.
It's good to treat yourself every now and again right?
Plus my skin looks super 'glowy' at the moment!
Good week ladies?

Something fishy.....
Last weekend I finally got around to using the gift voucher my Grandma had got me over Christmas, for a fish pedicure.
These fishy pedicures have been around for a while now, but only now has one opened up near me. I was pretty excited to go try.
If you haven't heard about it then the general idea is that you plonk your feet in a big bowl of water amongst 'doctor fish' that nibble away at the dead skin on your feet. Supposedly making them softer and getting rid of hard skin.
I have very tickley feet so was slightly apprehensive to how I'd cope, especially when the lady told me that any sudden movements would scare the fish and they wouldn't nibble! But apart from a few squeals when they tackled the very sole of my foot it was actually pretty relaxing. Almost like a vibrating feeling on my feet. It did smell a bit 'fishy' but nothing overpowering.
I noticed a difference instantly of the softness of my feet, but I had just had them in warm water for 15 minutes so that probably helped! A few days later I still have hard skin, but I can feel a slight difference. It's something you need to have done regularly to notice a big difference.
It's quite gimmicky but much more relaxing than I thought. And it cost £10 for 15 minutes so not too pricey
Would I recommend it?
Well, yes, if you've never been before it is a fun experience, especially if you go with friends! I did find it relaxing, but the environment I had it done in was noisy and a bit 'tacky' looking, they were defiantly branding it as more of a gimmick than as a beauty treatment. In a nice relaxing health spa and then having a pedicure to follow would be ideal and I'm sure places do offer that.
However I do worry about the fish and whether they actually want to eat dead skin. Surely they'd rather be swimming in the sea?
I would go with a friend if they wanted to try it out but personally I'd rather just go for a pedicure! Especially since I saw this article in the news.

I would go with a friend if they wanted to try it out but personally I'd rather just go for a pedicure! Especially since I saw this article in the news.

Flasher
I've had this flasher style mac for years, I generally just wear it over dresses as I always find long coats/jackets look funny over trousers. I don't know why though.
I was also going to wear my black trilby with this look, but it made me look like inspector gadget - so I passed!
As for my face, try not to look at it, I look like I'm about to sneeze! Also this it what happens to my hair when I sleep with it wet.
Mac - ASOS
Scarf - Calvin Klein
T-Shirt - Urban Outfitters
Knee length boots - Topshop

Does a leopard ever change it's spots?
Yes it does. Because I can only do blobs and squiggles.
I like to think I'm getting better at free hand leopard print, but a friend commented on how this looked like something out of the Flintstones.....
Natural Collection - White
OPI - A Grape Fit!
Barry M - Mint Green
2 Mad - Striper in Black
